This is an excellent bookto use fo an introduction to modren algebra. It is clear and very accessible, with many useful examples. I highly recommend it.

that they are trying to give students a hard time early on, perhaps to discourage them from taking further mathematics courses. I feel great pity for those that have the misfortune of being taught linear algebra with this book.

It looks like some of the reviewers here disagree with me, but I think this textbook is excellent. The explanations and examples are generally very clear, and there isn't a lot of distracting nonsense. In many textbooks they try too hard

I used this book many years ago and I have to say that it is the main reason I was able to become an engineer. It gave me a solid basis in algebra despite hating math at the time.
