# Percents

The word "percent" means hundredths. That is: per one hundred or . One hundred percent means one whole object. Any value less than 100% is less than one whole object. For example, 50% is less than one whole object. In fact, it is 1/2 of the object. 2% means 2 parts of the whole. Don't forget; the % sign means .

 To change percents to fractions: 1. Drop the percent sign.2. Multiply the number by 3. Reduce if necessary.

Example:

 To change fractions to percents: 1. Divide the numerator by the denominator. 2. Move the decimal point 2 places to the right. 3. Add the percent sign.

Example:

 To change percents to decimals: 1. Drop the percent sign.2. Move the decimal point 2 places to the left. (Sometimes adding zeroes will be necessary.)

Example: 39 % = .39

 To change decimals to percents: 1. Move the decimal point 2 places to the right.2. Add the percent sign.

Example: .59 = 59% 3.25 = 325%
