Partial Fractions

1. Decomposition of N(x)/D(x) into partial fractions

(a) If degree of N(x) ≥ degree of D(x), use long division and the method of partial fractions on the
remainder
.

(b) Completely factor the denominator into factors of the form

where (ax2 + bx + c) is ir reducible .

(c) For each factor of the form (px + q)m, the partial fraction decomposition must include the
following sum of m fractions .

(d) For each factor of the form (ax2 +bx+c)n, the partial fraction decomposition must include the
fol lowing sum of n fractions.

2. Write the partial fraction decomposition of the rational expressions .
