Required Supplies:

Martin-Gay, Elayn. Beginning and In termediate Algebra , 4^th Edition. Prentice-Hall
• Calculator: You must have a scientific calculator at the minimum, but either a TI-83 or a TI-
84 would be recommended.

Course Description:
A second course in beginning algebra building on topics from math 097. Topics include:
ope rations with polynomials , factoring, solving quadratic equations by factoring , rational
ex pressions and equations , functions, systems of linear equations and matrices . A graphing
calculator may be required.
Prerequisite: Math 097with a grade of C or better or appropriate placement test score.

Student Outcomes:
After completion of this course the student will demonstrate proficiency working in the fol lowing
areas:
• Demonstrate a basic understanding of the structure of the real number system;
• Use sets and set notations when appropriate;
• Perform basic operations with algebraic expressions ;
• Solve Linear Equations and inequalities;
• Graph linear equations;
• Find equations of lines;
• Solve ratios and proportions;
• Solve applications relevant to course content
