COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Designed to augment the knowledge of the student who has limited background in
algebra : fundamental operations, special products and factors, functions and
fractional equations , exponents, radicals, quadratic equations.
PREREQUISITE:
Math 020 with a grade of C or better or placement through the College Testing
and Placement Program
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will
be able to:
• Evaluate and simplify linear algebraic ex pressions using the properties of
real numbers and the order of operations.
• Perform the operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
on polynomial, rational, and radical expressions and complex numbers.
• Factor binomial, trinomial, and four-term polynomial expressions with and
without common factors .
• Solve each of the fol lowing types of equations: linear equations and
inequalities, quadratic equations, equations containing rational expressions,
systems of linear equations in two and three unknowns, and equations involving
radicals.
• Use the laws of exponents to simplify expressions containing integer and
rational exponents.
• Translate real life applications into mathematical equations, formulate
problem solving strategies, and interpret the solutions.
• Graph solution sets for linear and non-linear functions in two unknowns and
linear inequalities in one unknown and identify domain and range of the
functions.
• Formulate the equation of a line given characteristics of the line.

GRADING POLICIES:
The final percentage will be determined by dividing the total number of
points earned by the total number of possible points. The following scale will
be used to assign the final grade: A=90-100%, B=80-89%, C=70-79%, D=60-69%, and
F=0-59%. In addition, please refer to the College Catalog for information
concerning the specific conditions under which a grade of ‘W’ can be assigned.

QUOTE FROM A PREVIOUS STUDENT:
What advice would you give to future students so that they will be
successful in taking on-line math courses?
“Be consistent. Work on the course, as if you were actually attending by doing
it the same amount of time each day. It is very easy to get behind in this
course if you are not consistent. Take advantage of the tutor help that is
available. Do not hesitate to contact the instructor. If you find yourself
having difficulties voice it to your instructor immediately”
Good Luck!
