Greatest Common Factor

The order to do factoring:

1. GCF
2. Grouping (4 terms , common factor 2by2.)
3. Trinomial
4. Difference of Squares

Make sure you know your perfect squares through 122=144.

ALWAYS check your answers by multiplying them back out.

Some of the exercises look something like:

1. Rename (p + q) as x. Now, you have x2 – y2.

2. Once you’ve factored x 2 – y2, replace each x with (p + q) and simplify .

There is a question like this in your testbank . You may or may not have it on your test,
but it’s a possibility.
