Grades: Your grade will be based on the following items:
10 Quizzes @ 10 points each
3 midterm exams @ 100 points each
Final exam @ 200 points
Do not ask for special grading consideration. Be responsible for yourself. Seek
help when you need it from instructor or tutors.
Math 0900 is a pass/fail class. Students must accumulate at least.70% of the
points possible over the semester in order to earn a
"pass" in the course.
Homework: Homework will be neither collected nor graded. However, it is strongly
recommended that you complete the problems
listed for each section before the following class meeting. Waiting to complete
the assigned problems will only hinder your
understanding of upcoming sections. The problems on each quiz will be similar to
homework problems and problems done during
class time. Math is not a spectator sport: you must do math to understand
math! Homework will not be discussed during class
time. If you have questions contact instructor during office hours or go
to tutoring. Since calculators can NOT be used on exams, it
is recommended that students do not use calculator on homework.
Techno logy devices :
Cell phones: Please be sure your cell phone is either off or on silent mode.
Calls and pages are not to be answered during class.
The policy of the Department of Mathematic and Statistics is that, unless an
examination requires a specific technology device, no
electronic devices can be activated and positioned where they can be seen or
used during a test. In particular, cell phones must be
turned off and placed inside bags, or left with the facilitator. Cell phones
should not be in pockets or attached to belts during a test.
The same is true of any wireless capable device. Furthermore, headphones cannot
be worn. A student found to be violating this
policy will automatically receive a score of zero on that test and may be
subject to further disciplinary action.
Courses requiring ordinary or graphing calculators will continue to allow such
devices, but the devices must not be wireless capable
devices or portable computers, personal data assistants (PDA's), or devices
otherwise able to send and/or receive voice message,
data, graphics or photographic images.
In the unusual circumstance that a student needs his/her phone active during a
test because an emergency call is expected, the
active cell phone must be left with the facilitator.
Quizzes: Quizzes will be taken through Blackboard. The format will be multiple
choice. Each quiz will be worth 10 points. Each quiz
will be available on Blackboard for 24 hours the day it appears on Course
Outline. You will be given one hour to complete each quiz.
Quizzes may be completed using any computer having internet access.
Exams: All midterm exams and final exam will be taken under monitored conditions
at local sites. The three midterm exams will be
during class time, 5:15 -6:30PM. Exam schedule appears on Course Outline. The
format of the three mid-term exams will be a
combination of "Show Your Work", "Multiple Choice" and possibly "Matching". As
directed by the Department of Mathematics and
Statistics, students will be given a departmental final which will be
comprehensive and will be "Multiple Choice" and "Show your
Work".. The final exam will be given Monday December 7,5:15 -7:15 PM.
DO NOT ASK TO RESCHEDULE THE FINAL EXAM.!!!!!
Make-ups: Absolutely no make-up quizzes will be offered for any reason.
Each student will be given 10 bonus points which is
equivalent to one perfect quiz. If you miss one quiz those ten points replace
your score. If you do not miss any quizzes, the 10
points are a bonus that you keep. Make-up exams will NOT be given except in
documented emergencies, and then you must obtain
prior consent from Mrs. Hayes.
These guidelines MUST be followed on mid-terms.
Your name, class name, and item ( Exam # 1) must appear at top of every page.
All work, graphs and answers are to be written in the space provided beside each
question. If this is absolutely not possible
students may attach pages and note "See attached page 7" for example. I will not
search for your work
Work is expected to be neat and easy to read. If it is hard to
read it will receive no credit.
Erase mistakes -don't scratch them out.
Start with (copy) the original question you are asked to work.
Show all steps . Showing NO WORK will receive NO CREDIT.
Remove all loose edges torn from a spiral notebook.
Do NOT-write on back of any pages.
If these guidelines are not followed, your exam will be subject to point
deductions. If guidelines are repeatedly not followed, point
deductions will increase or work may not be accepted.
Answer Keys: Answer keys for all exams and quizzes will be posted on Blackboard
shortly after items are graded.
Grades: Scores will be posted to Blackboard shortly after items are graded. You
can determine your own grade at any time by
dividing your total points received by the total points possible to that point.
Do not ask instructor to estimate your future grade.
Instructor will provide progress reports when requested or required by advisors.
Americans with Disabilities Act: In coordination with the Disability Resource
Center reasonable accommodations will be provided for
qualified students with disabilities. Please contact instructor during the first
week of class if you are to receive DRC
accommodations.
